About Katie
I I am a Pennsylvania-based freelance writer and editor.
A former middle and high school English teacher, I am currently a literacy professor at a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. I teach children's literature and literacy courses. My teaching and research interests include literacy teacher education, the teaching of writing, and the use of technology in the literacy classroom.
As an English education graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I taught first year composition in the English department and middle grades English Language Arts methods in the School of Education. My dissertation was a qualitative case study that examined teachers as digital writers.
I am committed to helping writers develop ways to enhance their writing. I have written for a variety of university publications and served as a communications intern during my fourth year at the University of Virginia. You can read some of my pieces by clicking on the Writing tab. I also blog about children's literature at katiereviewsbooks.wordpress.com.
I really enjoy working with my editing clients to reach their personal or professional writing goals. I offer explicit editing and revision suggestions based upon my clients' needs. I return clients' work in a timely fashion so that they can meet admissions/application/project deadlines. You can see the wide range of editing projects on which I have worked by clicking the Consulting & Editing tab.
I also tutor middle school through college students on SAT or GRE writing and/or general writing needs.
When I am not teaching, writing, or editing, I love to kayak in my lime green kayak and watercolor paint. Well, I have not done too much of either since I had my little boy, but I hope to kayak and paint with him real soon!
I am looking forward to working with you. You can email me at [email protected] or click on the Contact Katie tab and fill out the contact form.
